We’re here! Good ole Easley Elementary School. We have the best playground! It’s huge, with trees around it. We have monkey bars and stuff like that on the right side down the hill, and an open space to play on the left side of the hill. That’s where we play Frisbee and have our races. I played better today than I usually played. I was able to run a little faster and jump higher. I also won all three races today! I usually win one, but ALL of them? Now they REALLY have a reason to call me JET!
“Josiah?”
“Ooooooooh,” the students in class almost sing together before they start giggling. Everyone at school calls me JET except for her — my favorite teacher.
“Yes, Mrs. Prince?”
“Would you help me pass out the homework before you all go home?”
“Yes Ma’am.”
She’s really pretty and really nice ALL of the time. I get along with all of my teachers, so they usually let me help them with stuff. Some students call me the teachers’ pet, but I don’t care. I like helping and I like getting good grades.
“… and where are your glasses, young man?”
“They’re in my bag, Mrs. Prince.”
“And, why aren’t you wearing them?”
I want so badly to tell her the whole story about what happened to me the night before, but if Mom had a hard time believing me, I’m sure Mrs. Prince would too. Besides, we’re just about to go, so I don’t really have enough time.
“I can see much better today, Mrs. Prince.”
“Sooooo, you just woke up this morning able to see without glasses, huh?”
The class giggles.
“Well, that must be quite the miracle, young man!”
“Yes Ma’am.”
She smells really pretty today, too. I don’t remember how she smelled before today.
“Why thank you, sir.” She smiles as she hands me the stack of papers.
That just makes my day.
